Film photography can be an overwhelming endeavor with unknown jargons and seemingly complicated processes. Understanding the principles that are involved in the process from taking a photo to seeing it printed or on the screen, will not only help to
simplifythe process but also to have
better controlover how your images turn out.
In this class, we will start by discussing
film chemistrybriefly so we know what actually happens when light hits the film and how we are able to turn a chemical reaction into a beautiful image.
We will then explore
three key variablesthat affect your image and their relationship with each other – this should give you a good foundation to feel confident in your ability to use these variables to get the image you want.
After this we are ready to talk about
meteringi.e., how to identify what settings you need to use to take a well exposed image, some tips on
focusing manuallyand understanding
markings on your lenses,and some
advanced methodsyou can use to manipulate your final results.
There are three sections:
Section 1 – Film chemistry & ExposureSection 2 – MeteringSection 3 – Manual focusing, Long Exposures & Bracketing
At the end of each section there'll be a
mini exercisethat you can work on before moving on to the next section – this way you can be confident in your understanding before tackling further skills and techniques.
If you are looking to gain a more
in depth understandingof (film) photography principles to start 'making' images instead of 'taking' them, this
course is for you.
